What is Alexander Technique?

Calm, Centered, and Ready to Act

Everyone wants to be calm, focused, and energized at auditions and performances, but there are days when we could use help creating the mental and physical conditions that help us perform at our best. This Introduction to the Alexander Technique gives you easy ways reduce muscular tension, calm and focus your mind, and be available to creative inspiration. Learn how to help yourself and access calm, centered energy when the cameras are ready to roll.

Taught by Diane Gaary

Diane Gaary teaches speaking voice, dialects, and movement and has a particular interest in how use of the whole self affects the speaking and singing voice. With a BA in Theatre and English from Smith College, and an MFA in Acting from the University of Virginia, Diane has teacher certification from The American Society of the Alexander Technique (AMSAT) and the Lessac Institute for Voice and Body Training, as well as practitioner certification from the Feldenkrais Guild of North America®. She is on the faculty of Temple University and Arcadia University, teaches regularly at Westminster Choir College, and maintains a private practice in Philadelphia, PA. Her students have performed extensively on Broadway,in Regional Theatre, in film and television, and in major opera houses such as The Metropolitan Opera, The New York City Opera, and La Scalla.
